The 80th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day is a historic and meaningful moment for all Indonesians. This commemoration is not only a time to reflect on the struggles of the heroes who fought for independence but also an opportunity to strengthen the spirit of nationalism, unity, and care for the surrounding environment.
The “Bersih Merdeka HUT RI 80” program was conducted in 10 strategic locations across the Monas and Sudirman areas, in collaboration with Bumitori and the Ministry of Creative Economy, involving 50 volunteers who carried out a cleanup campaign along key public roads and spaces.

Ikbal Alexander as the founder or Kertabumi and an environmental influencer said that it is a common reality that large-scale events—especially those with massive public participation—inevitably generate a significant amount of waste. The celebration of Independence Day, typically filled with competitions, parades, bazaars, and various public events, is no exception. Without proper waste management, these activities risk polluting the environment and increasing the burden on landfills.
This activity took place on August 17, 2025, in line with the celebration of the 80th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. The activity lasted from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM Volunteers were responsible for educating visitors about waste sorting, collecting, transporting, and managing waste generated in the area.
Waste Collection Points (10 Locations):
- Thamrin Nine
- Plaza Indonesia
- National Museum
- National Gallery
- Thamrin 10
- Sari Pacific Hotel
- Sarinah Thamrin
- Chillax Sudirman
- WTC
- Lippo Mall Nusantara
The total amount of organic and inorganic waste collected during the Indonesian Independence Day celebration event nearly reached 70 tons, and the total amount of inorganic waste collected was 16 trash bags, equivalent to 61.2 kg, gathered from 10 locations. This amount corresponds to an emissions reduction of 304.29 KgCO₂e.
All the collected waste was then transported to the Kertabumi Recycling Center in South Tangerang for further sorting, weighing, and recycling.
