Kertabumi was assigned by KAO Indonesia to establish Bank Sampah Mitra Mandiri Berseri, which is located in Bira Tengah Village JL. Raya Batu Lenger, Batu Lenger Timur, Bira Tengah, Kecamatan Sokobanah, Sampang, Jawa Timur. The reason for choosing this location was carried out by discussion with and Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to promote sustainable tourim. This village has been granted as Desa Wisata and has attracted many local tourist around East Java. Due to the increase of tourism activities, the number of waste generation is also increasing. In the hope to combat waste pollution, community-based waste management or waste bank was proposed by the local tourism actors and the ministry of tourism and creative economy. The Waste Bank location is near Lon Malang Beach and residential areas in order to support the creation of a clean, healthy, safe and sustainable tourism location as stated in the slogan in this program.
This program is also part of the KAO’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which is a very positive step in supporting the environment and local communities. This project lasts for 3 months, from 9 November 2023 to 29 Februari 2024. The ultimate goal of establishinmg this Waste Bank is enhance plastic circularity, promote integrated waste management, increase the participation of tof the community, government and the private sectors as part of KAO’s extended producer responsibilities (EPR). With proper training and social business model, waste banks can become an important component in efforts to overcome the waste problem and achieve more sustainable development goals .
