Participants were then invited on a guided tour of Kertabumi Recycling Center to observe firsthand how waste is processed. The tour showcased various stages of waste management, including sorting, collection, shredding, and recycling of materials such as plastics, paper, and post-consumer packaging.

Through this experience, participants gained a deeper understanding that waste is not merely something to be discarded but can become a valuable resource when managed responsibly.

One of the highlights of the visit was the hands-on waste processing workshop. The children were given the opportunity to participate in creative activities that transformed used materials into useful and meaningful products.

Using a fun and easy-to-understand approach, participants learned about the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R), while also developing creativity and environmental awareness.

The workshop was filled with enthusiasm, curiosity, and active participation. The children eagerly shared ideas, asked questions, and explored creative ways to give new life to materials that would otherwise become waste.

Participants were taken on a tour of the Kertabumi area to observe firsthand the plastic waste processing process, from sorting by type, cleaning, and recycling to prevent plastic waste from polluting the environment.

In this educational session, participants were also provided with knowledge about the challenges of plastic waste management in Indonesia and the opportunities to utilize waste into useful items.

The most interesting part of this visit was practical workshop on making beaded bracelets from plastic waste. The collected plastic waste is processed into small flakes, melted, and then molded into colorful beads. These beads are then strung together by participants to create beautiful bracelets.

The workshop atmosphere was warm and enthusiastic. Participants shared creative ideas while stringing beads into unique and attractive bracelets.

“I just learned that plastic waste can be processed into beautiful beads like these. This activity has opened my eyes to managing waste more wisely.”said one of the participants.

Through this program, the Djarum Foundation aims to raise awareness among participants that plastic waste has economic potential if managed properly. This type of education is expected to motivate participants to become agents of change, apply the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, and inspire those around them.

This workshop is designed as an activity productive and enjoyable for children, where they are invited to get to know various types of waste, understand the importance of sorting, and be creative in changing inorganic waste into useful items such as Cell Phone Cases and Drawstring Bracelets.

More than just a creative activity, this program is an educational space that opens up insights about Konsep reduce, reuse, and recycle (3R). Children are introduced to the importance of their role in protecting the environment, and how small actions such as recycling can have a big impact on the planet.

Not only that, activities are also combined with delivery of aid to the two orphanages, as a form of social care from the Yayasan Kasih PAMA.

During the activity, students were invited to see firsthand the waste management process at the Kertabumi Recycling Center. They learn how inorganic waste such as plastic, paper and bottles can be reprocessed into products that are useful and have economic value, such as recycled bags, plaques and furniture. On the other hand, students are also introduced to the process of processing organic waste through making compost, biopori and eco enzyme.

Not only learning in theory, the students also follow along workshop interactive to try recycling directly. They looked enthusiastic when making products from recycled materials and witnessed the results of environmentally friendly processing of organic waste.

It is hoped that this activity can raise awareness from an early age about the importance of protecting the environment through wise waste management. Apart from that, this visit is a valuable momentum to instill the value of responsibility towards the earth through concrete actions.

After providing education, participants will be taken on a tour around the Kertabumi workshop area, to be shown several types of inorganic and organic waste processing. Then the inorganic waste that has been sorted will be recycled and converted into valuable and useful recycled products or creations. 

In this activity Kertabumi took part in booth activities where there were various exhibitions of recycled products, a workshop on recycling bottle cap waste using the injection (melting) method and a workshop on recycling plastic bag waste using the heat press method. Kertabumi also provides 2 drop boxes to accommodate plastic bottle type waste and paper type waste which will be taken and recycled after the activity is completed at the Kertabumi workshop.
